Callwave: Voicemail Reborn

// Posted in Reviews, Software, Tech, Widgets

I’ve been using this service for a few months now and whenever I mention it everyone seems really intrigued so I’m writing a formal review in the hopes that some of you can have your voicemail reborn through this service as well.

Callwave HTML formatted EmailCallwave is a free service that overrides your cell providers voicemail service with their own. They give you the ability to listen to your voicemail on your computer, receive email (really awesome html formatted email, check out the image), txt notifications and of course, check from your cell phone. You simply give them your phone number, choose a password and your good to go in a few minutes.

As a Mac user the only thing I need to hear to sell me on any service is “and it has a widget”. So did I mention…it has a widget? Up until I used this service I never checked my voicemail. It seems so primitive to have to call a number, give my password, wait for some recording to finish telling me to what to do (because I obviously don’t remember after the hundredth time), listen to all the voicemail I don’t care about, just to get to the one I want. On top of that, I have no idea when the call was left unless they specify in their message.

Now, all I do is open my laptop, press F12 and hit play. I instantly know who called, I know what time and I didn’t have to enter a password or listen to an obnoxious recording.

The only downside to this service is that it doesn’t know your contact’s information so you’ll have to enter that manually. This is a little tedious but in my opinion, completely worth it. They make it very easy though, when someone calls you, just click the contact icon next to their name in your widget, type their name and done. (Sure beats typing it on a cell keypad)

If you’re anything like me you’ve accidently went to work without your cell phone a few times in a hurry. What’s great about this service is that if I forget my cell phone and I’m on my laptop I still know who’s calling me and I can listen to their messages to see if it’s urgent.

I had just about given up on voicemail and then this service came around, hopefully, in the near future, this type of “visual voicemail” functionality will be built into all cell phones, until then, I’m using Callwave.
