Rails Envy Logo & Cards

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Rails Envy LogoI recently created a logo and business cards for some friends of mine over at Rails Envy. If you’re at all into Ruby on Rails, it’s a very useful blog. It’s run by Gregg Pollack and Jason Seifer, both of which are great programmers that I work with on a regular basis. The logo is kind of a nerdy one. I was trying to convey a “rails is greater than all” type of message so, obviously we can represent that very minimally with code. I went with a green colour scheme to go along with “envy”, as you may have guessed. I think the mint green shade and avoidance of black gives the cards (and logo) a clean, retro-esque feel.

Tutorial Blog LogoMy site has been feature in yet another article. This one comes from Tutorial Blog, a site that creates tutorials regarding good design supplemented with examples of such. You may recall earlier this week my CSS nav was featured on Smashing Magazine. Well, Tutorial Blog has featured my footer in an article/tutorial about how the footer has evolved past a simple copyright line.

If it wasn’t for Google Analytics and Technorati, I wouldn’t have had any idea that my site was featured on any of these sites at all. If you’ve got a blog and are looking to boost traffic and track stats (all for free), than you may want to keep reading. (more…)

Pets & Errands Site Goes Live

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Pets & Errands by Serena Dog Logo ElementYou may have already seen the logo illustration that I did for Pets & Errands by Serena. Yesterday the website, petsanderrands.com, went live. I utilised two separate layouts for this content rich site because the home page needed an eye catching way to display the company slogan, while the other pages needed room for the content to grow.

As always, I encourage everyone to take a look and offer some feedback.

Now comes the part where I wax validation. (more…)

Tiger In My Tank

Tiger WallpaperSo, a good friend of mine, RG Lacandola, sent me this incredible illustration that he created yesterday for his personal portfolio. I gushed about it for a while and I’m even considering it as a tattoo option. I decided to create another wallpaper using RG’s illustration as the centerpiece.

More Positive Feedback!

Monday, March 19th, 2007

My redesign has been live for officially two weeks today and in that short time I’ve received positive feedback from many different design sources! Last week, while browsing through my WordPress admin, I noticed I was being linked to from Smashing Magazine. They wrote an article about the practicality of CSS-based navigation and my site was one of the examples they linked to in their article. You can read the article here.

Everything Will Be Ok

Everything Will Be Ok WallpaperOn my recent trip to savannah I photographed a piece of street art on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Someone has written “Everything Will Be Ok” on a wall on the side of the street. I thought it was interesting enough to photograph and after some photoshop work I’ve turned it into a pretty nice wallpaper. I’m using a 17″ MacBook Pro so it’s at a pretty high resolution. I trust most of you can resize it to your liking.
Click the image to download the wallpaper.

I wasn’t satisfied with stopping there though. (more…)

Featured on CSS Princess

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Apparently someone submitted my site to CSS Princess. I hadn’t heard of them before this morning when I checked my Google Analytics stats to see where my visitors were coming from. According to the CSS Princess about page:

“CSS Princess is a project with the main idea for promoting and supporting beautiful and interesting css sites made by woman’s hand or woman’s touch.”

It’s great to see more positive feedback!
