Back Up with Slight Problems

// Posted in General

Those of you who have stumbled upon my site in the last week found it was down. I’ve got the site back up now and I switched to a new host (Dreamhost to be exact) I highly recommend them and you can even tell them I sent you by entering my email (erikagreco@gmail.com) when you sign up.

Aside from all that, I thank you for your patience as I get the site back into working order. As you can see, all the image links in the blog posts are broken. The heart and soul of the site (the portfolio) is alive and well though so you can take a look at what I do while I bring the blog back from the dead.

I apologise for the inconvenience as I transition to my new host.
Thank you!

Whew!

Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to blog recently. Plenty to blog about, just not enough free time. I’ve got quite a few projects going right now and more lined up, so I’ll have some great new portfolio work soon enough. Don’t be a stranger, new content is on the way!

Vimeo Addendum

// Posted in General, Video

I just wanted to add a little something to my last post.

Not even an hour after posting my article about Vimeo, I received the following email from Jakob Lodwick, one of the founders of Vimeo.

“Thanks for the nice Vimeo writeup on your blog.”

I’m assuming he was able to find out I wrote the article so quickly, thanks to Technorati. I thought this was just another way Vimeo separates itself from the “competition”. It’s a one sentence email. It probably took but a moment to write, but the fact that he chose to take that moment, where others couldn’t care less, and write an email shows that they still understand the lost art of customer appreciation. Bravo.

Erika #34 of About 33,500,000

Erika #34Google Analytics never ceases to amuse me. Or, is it amaze me? Perhaps both. Never the less, today when checking out this weeks keyword stats I noticed that 3 different people managed to find my website with the search query “erika“. Immediately I’m thinking, “Sheesh! Somebody did some digging to find my site from that.” But, I was wrong! Much to my surprise, (and delight) I found that when you Google “erika”, I am search result #34 of about 33,500,000. Pretty crazy stuff.

I thought this was worth mentioning and so I now pass the challenge on to you. Google your first name and see where you reside in the vast expanse of the interweb.

I Think I’m Turning 21…Finally

Happy Sushi Fun Time!My 21st birthday is creeping up here. At last check I’ve got 4 days, 5 hours, 37 minutes and 56 seconds until April 9th. I wanted to make a blog post on here as a note to anyone I may not have emailed about this weekends birthday festivities.

On Sunday, April 8th we’re going out to Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney. We’ll probably get there around 10pm (since I can’t drink ’til midnight). They’re open ’til 2am though, so we should have plenty of time to have some fun. As my little sushi illustration may lead you to deduce, we’re also going out for sushi. On Monday, April 9th (my actual birthday) we’re going to Wazzabi Sushi in Winter Park at around 7:30.

If you haven’t received an email from me about this stuff, (it’s because I don’t have your email) leave me a comment and let me know if you’re coming.

Hope to see you there!

Hydra-ho!

Hydra Studio LogoI move quickly, like the puma. So yeah, without even skipping a beat, I’ve landed a new part-time gig. I started work today at Hydra Studio in Lake Mary. I’m doing flash animation and development (something I’ve been meaning to jump back into). What a great example of being in the right place at the right time. Their flash guy was leaving just as I was leaving Mesos and since a couple of my friends already work there, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. And hey, who doesn’t love health insurance?

So, fulltime freelance didn’t last very long but this should still be a nice change of pace. The freelance projects keep rolling in to keep me occupied the other 3 days of my week, so hopefully I’ll have enough work to do a little collaboration.

Fulltime Freelance

// Posted in General

I’ve got some pretty exciting news. My last day at Mesos is this Thursday meaning that I will be going fulltime freelance for a while. It should be a pretty interesting change of pace, working at home 5 days a week. It’s something I’ve been striving for but I didn’t think it would happen so soon. I’m looking into the possibilities of another part-time job (I don’t think I’ll ever give up freelance in favour of another fulltime job) because I enjoy collaborating with other designers/developers which is one of the draw-backs to freelance. Anyway, wish me luck on my new endeavour!
